Ventabren à Salon-de-Provence - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This 21.6 km section descends from the rocky heights of Ventabren into the peaceful Touloubre plain, featuring a modest 61m ascent and 266m descent over approximately 5.5 hours of walking. The path meanders through classic Provencal landscapes, crossing vineyards and pine forests that lead you gently toward Salon-de-Provence. You will pass near the majestic Roquefavour Aqueduct before reaching the village of Pélissanne, where the Saint-Maurice church offers a moment of contemplation. Entering Salon, the silhouette of the Château de l'Empéri and the Romanesque Saint-Michel church welcome travelers, echoing the ancient history of the Camino. It is a day of spiritual lightness, characterized by the shimmering light of the olive groves and a sense of profound calm.

Difficultés

Despite the overall downhill profile, the moderate difficulty stems from the stage length and high exposure to the sun in the open plains. The 266m of descent can be taxing on the knees, particularly on the paved sections as you approach the urban edges of Salon.

Conseils

Be sure to get your credential stamped at the Salon-de-Provence tourist office or Saint-Michel church. Take a refreshing break in Pélissanne and carry extra water, as shaded areas are sparse across the plain before reaching the city.
