This 28.4 km stage invites you to leave the ramparts of Vence for a long, bucolic journey through the heart of the Préalpes d'Azur, taking approximately 7.5 hours. With an ascent of 692m and a descent of 896m, the path winds through hills scented with scrubland and passes through the charming villages of Tourrettes-sur-Loup and Bar-sur-Loup. Along the way, spirituality is felt at the Saint-Bernardin chapel and the discreet oratories that line this ancient Roman road. Between ancient olive groves and plunging views of the Mediterranean, the pilgrim walks towards Mouans-Sartoux in an atmosphere of absolute serenity. It is a section where medieval history and Provençal lushness meet harmoniously.
The moderate effort is focused on successive climbs totaling 692m, particularly when leaving Vence and towards Bar-sur-Loup. The 896m descent can be demanding on the knees on stony paths towards the end of the day. Sun exposure is high on the balconies overlooking the Loup valley.
Refill your water bottles in Tourrettes-sur-Loup as water points are scarce afterwards. Be sure to get your credential stamped at the Mouans-Sartoux town hall or the castle. Bring walking poles to stabilize the long final descent towards the plain.
