Vence à Grasse - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This extensive 31.9 km stage in the heart of the Préalpes d'Azur connects the medieval city of Vence to the world perfume capital, Grasse, with an estimated walking time of 8.5 hours. Featuring 733m of ascent and 963m of descent, the path winds through garrigue and olive groves, offering breathtaking views over the Gorges du Loup. Pilgrims pass through the perched villages of Bar-sur-Loup and Tourrettes-sur-Loup, stone jewels where ancient oratories still stand to protect travelers. Arriving in Grasse, home to the historic Cathedral of Notre-Dame-du-Puy, provides an olfactory and spiritual climax after a day of physical exertion. This demanding section highlights the Romanesque heritage of the region, bathed in the unique light of the French Riviera's hinterland.

Difficultés

The effort is significant due to the 31.9 km distance, which is very high for a single day, combined with a technical 963m descent that puts strain on the knees. The climb towards the plateau after Tourrettes can be grueling in the sun, and supply points are far apart.

Conseils

Remember to get your credential stamped at Vence Cathedral before leaving and at Grasse Cathedral upon arrival. Carry at least 2 liters of water, as the section between Bar-sur-Loup and Grasse is dry in summer. If the distance is too long, consider a stop halfway in Tourrettes-sur-Loup.
