Vence à Biot - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This 18.9 km journey leads you from the medieval heights of Vence to the cobblestone streets of Biot, with an estimated walking time of 5.5 hours. With 469m of ascent and a significant descent of 682m, this section of the Via Aurelia offers a beautiful balance between hinterland and coast. You will cross the La Sine forest and the Brague valley, passing small chapels and ancient boundary markers that have guided Jacquerean pilgrims for centuries. The spiritual atmosphere is enhanced by the Mediterranean scents of pine and rosemary that accompany your descent. This stage is a true transition from the limestone cliffs to the artistic soul of the Var region.

Difficultés

The difficulty is moderate, though the 682m of descent can be taxing on the knees, especially on the rocky paths near the Brague river. Some sections in the woods can be slippery after rain. There are very few water points or shops between the two towns, so carry at least 2 liters of water.

Conseils

Make sure to get your credential stamped at Vence Cathedral before leaving, or at the Biot tourist office upon arrival. In Biot, visit the Church of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, a 15th-century gem. If walking in summer, the Brague river trail offers a much-appreciated natural air conditioning.
