Valbonne à Théoule-sur-Mer - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This 28.2 km journey takes you from the medieval heart of Valbonne to the azure shores of Théoule-sur-Mer, with an estimated walking time of 7.5 hours. The route rises gently with 460m of elevation gain, crossing the Sophia Antipolis area before entering the serene Valmasque Natural Park. Leaving the scents of the scrubland and shaded pine forests behind, you will descend 539m towards the Mediterranean, offering breathtaking views of the red rocks of the Esterel. Between ancient oratories and the Saint-Bernardin chapel, the pilgrim experiences a peaceful transition from the Provencal hinterland to the vastness of the sea, marking a profound spiritual connection between forest and coast.

Difficultés

Despite the moderate elevation, the 28 km length requires good endurance, especially when crossing the urbanized areas of Mougins. The final 539m descent towards the sea can be taxing on the joints due to occasionally stony ground. Sun exposure is high on the ridges overlooking the Bay of Cannes.

Conseils

Remember to have your credential stamped at the Valbonne Tourist Office before starting. Bring plenty of water, as supply points are scarce within the Valmasque park. Upon reaching Théoule, take a moment of reflection at the Sainte-Germaine church facing the harbor.
