Valbonne à Pégomas - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This 12.6 km stage, taking approximately 3.5 hours, leads you from the historic heart of Valbonne down towards the Siagne valley. With a gentle ascent of 187m and a descent of 424m, the trail winds through the fragrant Mourachonne hills, blending Mediterranean forests with quiet residential paths. You will encounter small religious landmarks and old stone crosses that have guided pilgrims for centuries toward Arles and onto Spain. Passing near the Mourachonne river, the path offers a cooling atmosphere before arriving in Pégomas, the capital of Mimosa. This section provides a peaceful, meditative transition between the high Provencal villages and the floral plains near Grasse.

Difficultés

While the 187m climb is negligible, the 424m descent includes some paved sections that can be hard on the joints. There is limited shade during the final kilometers, so be prepared for high temperatures if walking during the summer months.

Conseils

Stock up on water in Valbonne as there are few public fountains on the trail until you reach Pégomas. For a quiet moment, visit the church of Saint Peter in Pégomas upon arrival, which often welcomes pilgrims seeking a stamp for their credential.
