This 30.4 km leg departs from the artistic ramparts of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, heading into the Azurean hills with 792m of ascent and 896m of descent. The trail winds through pine and holm oak forests, offering stunning views of the Estérel massif before passing through Roquefort-les-Pins and reaching the Val de Pians. Along the way, small oratories and ancient stone bridges testify to the long history of the Camino de Santiago in Provence. Pilgrims will enjoy the scents of the scrubland as they walk toward Mouans-Sartoux, a journey that takes approximately 8.5 hours. It is a spiritual and scenic transition between the artistic heritage of Saint-Paul and the flower-growing traditions of the Grasse region.
The effort is significant with nearly 800m of elevation gain over a long 30 km distance, requiring excellent stamina. The 896m descent can be tough on the knees, especially on the rocky paths of the Val de Pians. Supply points are scarce between Roquefort-les-Pins and the finish line, making water management crucial.
Pack at least 2.5 liters of water in hot weather and take a break at the church in Roquefort-les-Pins. You can get your credential stamped at the Mouans-Sartoux town hall or at the castle. A dawn departure is highly recommended to avoid the peak heat on the exposed ridge sections.
