This extensive 30.8 km leg takes you through the heart of ochre Provence, connecting the foot of the majestic Rocher de Roquebrune to the medieval town of Les Arcs. Walking between the Estérel and Maures massifs, you will tackle 380m of ascent and 206m of descent, representing approximately 7.5 hours of trekking. The route winds through renowned vineyards and fragrant pine forests, passing close to the Sainte-Roseline chapel, a significant spiritual site on the Via Aurelia. Arriving in Les Arcs, with its Saracen tower and steep alleys, provides a striking historical reward for the pilgrim seeking silence and heritage. This segment features a quintessential Mediterranean color palette of red earth and deep green pines.
The main difficulty lies in the length of the stage (over 30 km), which requires excellent physical condition and steady pacing despite the moderate 380m elevation gain. Some sections cross vast vineyards and scrubland with very little shade, making progress strenuous in high temperatures. Provisions are limited between the two main towns, requiring full self-sufficiency.
Don't miss a stop at the Sainte-Roseline Chapel to get your credential stamped and admire the relics. Carry at least 3 liters of water per person, as drinking water points are scarce along this forest and vineyard stretch.
