Pourrières à Meyreuil - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This 24.1 km journey at the foot of the imposing Montagne Sainte-Victoire offers a total immersion in the landscapes cherished by Cézanne. With a positive elevation gain of 668m and a loss of 686m, pilgrims leave Pourrières to ascend towards the Cengle plateau, crossing fragrant pine forests and AOC Côtes de Provence vineyards. Along the way, you will discover the Sainte-Victoire oratory and pass near Saint-Antonin-sur-Bayon, where the silence of the scrubland invites meditation. The route, taking approximately 6.5 hours, connects the Roman history of the Via Aurelia with the mineral majesty of southern France before reaching Meyreuil.

Difficultés

The moderate effort is concentrated on the climb towards the Cengle plateau with stony sections that are demanding for the ankles. The 668m elevation gain combined with high sun exposure on the rocky ridges can make the walk strenuous during the summer months.

Conseils

Carry a substantial water supply, as refill points are scarce between Saint-Antonin and the finish. Be sure to have your credential stamped at the Pourrières church before departure and enjoy the panoramic view at the highest point of the Cengle.
