This 20.2 km stage invites you on a sensory journey through the Grasse countryside, starting from the heights of Opio and ending in the gentle valley of Pégomas. With 405m of elevation gain and 559m of descent, the path winds through centuries-old olive groves and stone terraces, offering striking Mediterranean views over approximately 5.5 hours of walking. Leaving the Saint-Trophime church, you will pass through the charming hamlets of Plascassier and Plan de Grasse, where vernacular heritage and small oratories recall the piety of ancient pilgrims. The descent toward the Siagne valley marks a soothing transition, filled with the scent of jasmine and the sound of trickling streams. It is a meditative stage, perfect for reconnecting with the essential between the blue of the sea and the green of the hills.
The effort remains moderate, though the 559m of negative elevation can be taxing on the knees during the descent towards Plan de Grasse. The route alternates between stony paths and paved sections, requiring extra caution in high heat due to direct sun exposure on certain plateaus. There are few shaded spots during the second half of the day.
Remember to get your credential stamped at the Opio town hall or at the Pégomas church upon arrival. Take a break in Plascassier to admire the fields of roses and jasmine, iconic of the local perfume industry. Ensure you carry enough water, as supply points are scarce between Plan de Grasse and the center of Pégomas.
