Mougins à Théoule-sur-Mer - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This 27.2 km journey in the heart of the Riviera begins in the circular village of Mougins, a hub of art and history, before descending towards the Mediterranean. With 454m of ascent and 531m of descent, this 7-hour trek takes you from the forested hills of Valmasque to the iconic red rocks of the Estérel. Along the way, pilgrims encounter the Notre-Dame-de-Vie chapel, a historic site of devotion, and pass through the traditional districts of Cannes to reach the shore. Arriving in Théoule-sur-Mer offers a unique spiritual dimension facing the azure vastness, marking the transition between the Provençal hinterland and the wild coastline. It is a stage of contrasts where the scent of maritime pines guides your steps toward the coastal sanctuary.

Difficultés

The main challenge lies in the length of the stage (27.2 km) and the transition between forest trails and urban pavement as you approach Cannes. While the 454m of ascent is spread out, the 531m descent toward the coast can be taxing on the knees by the end of the day. Sun exposure is significant during the final coastal section.

Conseils

Remember to get your credential stamped at the Mougins Tourist Office or the Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur church before departing. Carry plenty of water as supply points are scarce between Mougins and the outskirts of Cannes. For a contemplative break, the garden of the Notre-Dame-de-Vie chapel is an ideal place of peace.
