Le Thoronet à Brignoles - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This 26.3 km spiritual odyssey begins at the foot of the majestic Thoronet Abbey, a masterpiece of Cistercian architecture, before plunging into the evergreen oak forests of central Var. With an elevation gain of 576m and a loss of 521m, you will walk for approximately 7 hours through wild scrubland and the renowned vineyards of the Côteaux Varois. The route bypasses the Carcès lake before reaching the narrow medieval streets of Brignoles, the ancient city of the Counts of Provence. Between oratories hidden in the woods and scents of wild thyme, this stage invites deep meditation in the silence of the Provençal valleys.

Difficultés

The effort is rated moderate, but the 576m elevation gain requires steady endurance management, especially during steep climbs through the forest. The terrain can be rocky and slippery after rain, particularly on ridge paths. Sun exposure is significant in the vineyard areas, and water points are scarce between Le Thoronet and the outskirts of Brignoles.

Conseils

Take time to visit the Thoronet Abbey before departing to infuse your walk with serenity. Remember to fill your water bottles in Le Thoronet as there is little drinking water on the trail until Brignoles. Upon arrival, head to the Brignoles Tourist Office (Place Carami) to get your credential stamped.
