Cannes à Saint-Raphaël - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This 31.5 km stage invites you to leave the glamour of Cannes for the wild immensity of the Esterel massif, a true sanctuary of red rocks plunging into the azure sea. With 692m of positive and 704m of negative elevation, this journey of about 8.5 hours offers a unique contemplative dimension in the heart of the scrubland and through the passes of Théoulière and Mistral. Walking in the footsteps of ancient pilgrims, you will pass through Mandelieu-la-Napoule before entering a preserved wilderness, punctuated by magnificent panoramas over the Mediterranean. The religious heritage is revealed upon arrival with the Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Victory in Saint-Raphaël, marking the end of a spiritual crossing between sky, sea, and volcanic earth.

Difficultés

The effort is sustained with 692m of ascent, mainly concentrated on the steep tracks of the Esterel massif. Sun exposure is almost permanent on the red rocks that reflect the heat, and the forest section lacks essential supply points.

Conseils

Be sure to fill up on water in Mandelieu as the crossing of the Esterel is very arid. Remember to have your credential stamped at the church of Notre-Dame de l'Espérance in Cannes at the start or at the basilica in Saint-Raphaël upon arrival.
