This 18.7 km journey starting from the glassmaking village of Biot leads you through the pine forests and valleys of Sophia-Antipolis, blending modern life with Mediterranean landscapes. Featuring an ascent of 388m and a descent of 499m, this approximately 5-hour walk offers a gentle transition between forest paths and ridgeline roads overlooking the Brague river. Along the way, you will encounter Roman remains and the Saint-Basile chapel, historical markers of the ancient pilgrimage route to Arles. The descent into Pégomas, a village famous for its mimosas, provides a tranquil atmosphere as you reach the fertile Siagne plain. This section encourages quiet reflection, where the scent of eucalyptus woods offers a sanctuary away from the coastal bustle.
Despite the modest 388m of elevation gain, the route features many changes of direction within the wooded areas of Sophia-Antipolis that can be confusing. Some asphalt sections in the middle of the stage can be hard on the feet during hot weather.
Remember to have your credential stamped at the Biot tourist office before setting off. Fill your water bottles in Mouans-Sartoux as water points are scarce during the final third of the trail.
