This 26.5 km segment leaves the glassmaking village of Biot for a balanced journey between the Azure coast and pine-scented hills, taking approximately 7.5 hours. Featuring 408m of ascent and 527m of descent, the pilgrim winds through the La Brague and Croix des Gardes natural parks, offering breathtaking views of the Lérins Islands. Along the way, small oratories and the crossing of old Cannes recall the historical significance of this route that once linked Provence to Italy. Between the vibrant seaside vibe and the silence of the scrubland paths, this route invites active meditation before reaching the foot of the Esterel massif in Mandelieu. Visiting the Notre-Dame d'Espérance chapel at the top of Le Suquet is a spiritual and historical highlight of the day.
The moderate effort is mainly focused on the climb to the Croix des Gardes (about 160m of continuous ascent) and the general fatigue from the 26.5 km distance. Urban sections through Cannes can be taxing in high temperatures due to heat reflection from the asphalt. Be careful at frequent intersections in peri-urban areas where GR markings might sometimes be hidden by street furniture.
Don't forget to get your credential stamped at the church of the Immaculate Conception in Cannes or at the Mandelieu tourist office. A contemplative break is recommended on the Suquet hill to admire the sea before the final stretch. Bring plenty of water, as natural water sources are scarce between Biot and Cannes.
