Villeneuve-Loubet à Les Arcs in 3 days - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This epic 97.4 km journey takes you from the Riviera coast to the heart of forested Provence, featuring an elevation gain of 1617m and a loss of 1638m over approximately 3 days. Leaving the medieval fortress of Villeneuve-Loubet behind, you will traverse the Brague woods, the aromatic hills of Grasse, and the rugged terrain of the Argens valley. The path is lined with ancient oratories and Romanesque chapels, offering a profound spiritual experience amidst umbrella pines and Mediterranean garrigue. Passing through historic hubs like Mouans-Sartoux and the Roman city of Fréjus, this demanding section culminates in the preserved medieval village of Les Arcs-sur-Argens.

Difficultés

The physical demand is high, with 1617m of ascent spread over very long daily stages exceeding 30 km. Sections through the arrière-pays and near the Argens valley involve rocky terrain with significant sun exposure and limited shade.

Conseils

Plan your water supplies carefully between Grasse and Fréjus, as natural springs are scarce in the wooded areas. Be sure to get your credential stamped at Grasse Cathedral and explore the Parage medieval district upon your arrival in Les Arcs.
