Théoule-sur-Mer à Brignoles in 3 days - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This epic 104.2 km journey through the heart of wild Provence connects the Azure coast to the fertile lands of the Haut-Var in approximately 26 hours of hiking. Leaving the red shores of the Estérel in Théoule-sur-Mer, you climb towards volcanic ridges before diving into the silence of cork oak forests towards Vidauban and Le Luc. Sacred heritage marks your path with the ruins of Thoronet Abbey nearby and the crossing of medieval towns like Lorgues, rich in secular oratories. With a positive elevation gain of 1773m and negative of 1701m, the itinerary offers an intense spiritual dimension between the azure sea and the gold of the Argens vineyards. Arriving in Brignoles, the ancient city of the Counts of Provence, marks the entry into a more interior Provence, steeped in history and serenity.

Difficultés

The effort is sustained with 1773m of positive elevation, requiring excellent endurance over three consecutive days of walking. The main difficulty lies in the exposure to the sun on the limestone plateaus and the crossing of the Estérel massif where water points are rare. The terrain is often stony and taxing on the joints, particularly during the descents totaling 1701m.

Conseils

Refill your water supplies before leaving Théoule, as the Estérel massif can be a real furnace in summer. Be sure to have your credential stamped at the Collegiate Church of Lorgues or the Brignoles Tourist Office. For a mystical experience, plan a short detour to Thoronet Abbey, a masterpiece of Cistercian art located a few kilometers from the trail.
