This 77.8 km journey, spread across three days of demanding hiking, leads you from the iconic red cliffs of Roquebrune-sur-Argens deep into the 'Provence Verte' region. With an elevation gain of 1326m and a loss of 1078m, the trail meanders through dense woodlands and renowned vineyards, passing through historic sites like Lorgues and the Cistercian marvel of Thoronet Abbey. Pilgrims will enjoy a Mediterranean atmosphere where pine scents blend with the spiritual heritage of ancient oratories along the forest tracks of the Var hinterland. Expect around 20 hours of walking to complete this section, transitioning from coastal landscapes to the medieval charm of Brignoles, the former summer residence of the Counts of Provence.
The effort is significant with 1326m of ascent, including steep climbs on forest tracks often fully exposed to the sun. Covering over 25 km per day requires great endurance and careful planning, as supply points are sparse between the towns of Lorgues and Le Thoronet.
Take time for a spiritual and architectural break at Thoronet Abbey, a masterpiece of Cistercian art. Remember to get your credential stamped at the Saint-Martin collegiate church in Lorgues and ensure you carry at least 3 liters of water for the long forest stretch towards Brignoles.
