Pégomas à Les Arcs in 3 days - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This expansive 72.8 km journey connects the Siagne Valley to the heart of Dracénie, requiring approximately 18 to 20 hours of trekking over three days. Leaving Pégomas, the path ascends towards the Estérel massif and the Tanneron forest, featuring 1098m of elevation gain and 945m of loss through pine and mimosa landscapes. You will walk between Lake Saint-Cassien and the Var foothills, discovering hidden gems like the Saint-Cassien chapel and the medieval heritage of Les Arcs-sur-Argens. Between fragrant scrubland and Provencal vineyards, this stage offers a deep spiritual immersion in the heart of a wild and preserved nature. This demanding itinerary provides a silent sanctuary in the mountain ranges, inviting introspection in the true spirit of ancient pilgrims.

Difficultés

The difficulty lies in the length of the route and managing the 1098m of elevation gain over three days, especially the initial climb toward the Tanneron massif. Some forested sections are very isolated, requiring constant attention to marking to avoid getting lost. High sun exposure in the scrubland areas and infrequent supply points add to the challenge.

Conseils

Carry a large water supply, as springs are scarce between the villages of Tanneron and the shores of Lake Saint-Cassien. For your credential, be sure to get your stamp at the Pégomas town hall at the start and at the Les Arcs tourist office upon arrival. A contemplative break by Lake Saint-Cassien is ideal for resting your feet before the final section.
