Mougins à Lorgues in 3 days - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This epic 95.3 km journey takes you through the heart of limestone Provence, linking the artistic village of Mougins to the spiritual hub of Lorgues in about 24 hours of walking over three days. Pilgrims cross the Siagne and Argens rivers, winding through Grasse's olive groves and the Esterel foothills with a total ascent of 1479m and 1547m of descent. Along the way, stops in Saint-Cézaire or Fayence reveal medieval oratories and the Notre-Dame-de-Lorette chapel, true gems of Provençal Jacquian heritage. Between the scent of pines and the rugged garrigue, this section offers a solitude conducive to introspection, illuminated by the unique light of the Terres de Siagne. Arriving in Lorgues, famous for its Saint-Martin collegiate church, marks a significant milestone in the quest for spirituality on the Via Aurelia.

Difficultés

The effort is demanding with 1479m of elevation gain, including the technical descent and steep climb through the Siagne Gorges. Stages are long (averaging over 30 km per day), requiring excellent physical endurance and strict water management in the arid areas of the Var hinterland.

Conseils

Remember to get your credential stamped at the Fayence tourist office or the Bagnols-en-Forêt town hall. Carry a significant water supply between Saint-Cézaire and Seillans as refill points are scarce; shade is limited while crossing the limestone plateaus.
