This monumental 56.9 km journey takes you from the glamour of Monaco to the peaceful olive groves of Opio, offering a spectacular summary of the limestone Riviera. Over three days of walking, you will conquer an ascent of 1996m and a descent of 2486m, moving from Mediterranean balconies to the foothills of the Préalpes d'Azur through La Turbie and Vence. The path is dotted with spiritual treasures such as the Trophy of Augustus and the Rosary Chapel decorated by Matisse, witnessing the devotion that inhabits this passage between sea and mountains. Between stretches of fragrant scrubland and medieval hilltop villages, the pilgrim experiences a true disconnect, paced by the wind on the ridges and the silence of ancient oratories. This section requires approximately 16 to 18 hours of actual walking, plunging the hiker into deep introspection against the vast azure horizon.
The effort is sustained with nearly 2000m of elevation gain, including steep climbs on rocky paths that can be slippery in dry weather. The cumulative 2486m of descent is demanding on the knees, especially during the transition toward the Opio plateau. Sun exposure is almost constant on the ridges, and supply points are scarce once away from urban areas.
Plan stops in La Turbie and Vence to balance the effort and take the opportunity to stamp your credential at Vence Cathedral. Carry at least 2 liters of water per day, as springs are rare on the limestone plateaus of the hinterland.
