Meyreuil à Paradou in 3 days - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This 73.2 km three-day journey across the limestone heart of Provence leads you from the shadow of Sainte-Victoire to the foothills of the Alpilles, with an estimated walking time of 19 hours. Departing from Meyreuil, the pilgrim crosses the Arbois plateau before reaching the banks of the Arc river and passing through historic towns like Salon-de-Provence and Eyguières. Featuring 533m of elevation gain and 792m of loss, the route is rich in religious heritage, including the medieval church of Lançon-Provence and countless small orataries scattered through olive groves. Between fragrant scrubland and irrigation canals, this stage offers a powerful spiritual transition toward the tranquility of the Baux-de-Provence region. Your journey ends in Paradou, surrounded by the peaceful, authentic atmosphere of the Baux valley.

Difficultés

While the total elevation gain is moderate (533m), the difficulty lies in the long daily distances (averaging over 24km) and prolonged sun exposure on the Arbois plateau. The 792m of descent can be taxing on the knees due to rocky and sometimes slippery terrain in dry conditions. Several sections between villages lack water points, making self-sufficiency crucial.

Conseils

Plan for at least 3 liters of water per day, as springs are rare before reaching Salon-de-Provence. Be sure to get your credential stamped at Saint-Michel church in Salon-de-Provence, a historic highlight of the route. For a meditative break, the banks of the Craponne canal provide much-needed shade for tired feet.
