This 71.7 km three-day journey takes you through the heart of authentic Provence, connecting Meyreuil to the foothills of the Alpilles with 533m of ascent and 787m of descent. The trail leaves behind the views of Sainte-Victoire to cross the agricultural plains of Arbois before entering the mineral landscapes and silver olive groves of Maussane-les-Alpilles. Along the way, you will discover pilgrimage treasures such as Silvacane Abbey and ancient oratories marking the crossing of the Durance Valley. This section offers a unique spiritual transition between the Aix countryside and the Alpilles Natural Park, where the sound of cicadas accompanies the pilgrim's inner quest. The walk ends beautifully in the limestone valleys, bathed in the typical golden light of Southern France.
The challenge here lies in the total distance (71.7 km) rather than technical terrain, though the 533m ascent under the Provencal sun can be taxing. Scrubland areas offer little shade and some sections on the Arbois plateau are exposed to strong winds (Mistral). Supply points are far apart, requiring careful water management between valley villages.
Plan stops in Eguilles and Lambesc to balance your days and get your credential stamped in local churches. Don't miss the detour to Silvacane Abbey for a moment of reflection, and refill your water bottles in every village. Upon arriving in Maussane, a tasting of local olive oil is a traditional reward for the pilgrim.
