Meyreuil à Les Baux-de-Provence in 3 days - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This majestic 73.6 km journey through the heart of the Aix countryside leads you to the magnificent Baux-de-Provence over three days of contemplative walking. With an ascent of 537m and a descent of 790m, the path winds between olive groves, renowned vineyards, and the limestone landscapes that inspired Provence's greatest painters. Leaving Meyreuil, you will cross the Arc Valley and the plains before reaching the Alpilles massif, passing ancient oratories and the spiritual heritage of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence along the way. Expect about 18 to 20 hours of walking under the brilliant Mediterranean light, where every step brings you closer to Arles and the medieval memories of the Val d'Enfer. This section offers total immersion in Southern serenity, between fragrant scrubland and towns rich in Compostela history.

Difficultés

While the 537m elevation gain is moderate, the difficulty lies in the length of the daily stages and the almost constant sun exposure in the scrubland. The 790m of descent can be hard on the knees on the stony paths of the Alpilles, and some sections are isolated with no immediate supply points.

Conseils

Plan for at least 3 liters of water per day, as springs are rare between villages. Take advantage of passing through Saint-Rémy-de-Provence to stamp your credential at Saint-Martin church and don't miss the Val d'Enfer detour when arriving at Les Baux for a mystical visual experience.
