Menton à Biot in 3 days - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This inaugural 69.8 km odyssey on the Via Aurelia takes you from the square of the Basilica of Saint-Michel Archange in Menton to the hilltop village of Biot, requiring approximately 20 hours of walking over three days. This demanding route, with 2804m of ascent and 2699m of descent, overlooks the Riviera, passing through historic sites such as La Turbie and its Trophy of Augustus, as well as the heights of Nice and Saint-Paul-de-Vence. Between ridge paths offering plunging views of the Mediterranean and forested sections in the Grasse hinterland, the pilgrim walks between sea and mountain. Religious heritage marks every stage, from the oratories of the former County of Nice to medieval alleys, inviting deep introspection before the vastness of the azure horizon.

Difficultés

The effort is sustained with a total ascent of 2804m, particularly during the initial climb to La Turbie and the crossing of the Nice hills. Heat can be overwhelming on south-facing sections, and the rocky nature of the terrain requires great vigilance for your joints during the cumulative 2699m of descent.

Conseils

Be sure to get your credential stamped at the Menton Tourist Office at the start. Plan for a significant water supply between Nice and Biot, as supply points are rarer on the ridges; a spiritual break at the Cimiez Monastery is highly recommended.
