This spectacular 76.3 km crossing links the majestic La Turbie to the floral gardens of Pégomas over three days of intense hiking. Featuring 2401m of elevation gain and 2925m of descent, the path overlooks the Mediterranean before plunging into the hinterland of Grasse, passing through historic sites like Old Nice and the heights of Vence. Along the way, Baroque oratories and the famous Vence Cathedral bear witness to the devotion of pilgrims who once walked the Via Julia Augusta. Between the steep panoramas of the Préalpes d'Azur and the scents of the scrubland, this section offers a profound spiritual dimension where the vast horizon invites contemplation.
The challenge lies in the accumulation of 2401m of elevation gain over a significant distance, making for a sustained physical effort. The descents towards Nice and the Estérel are technical and demanding on the joints, while the sun exposure on the ridges requires rigorous water management.
Plan stops in Nice and Vence to have your credential stamped and enjoy pilgrim hospitality. Be sure to fill up on water in La Trinité before tackling the climbs to the karst plateaus, and don't miss visiting the Rosary Chapel decorated by Matisse in Vence.
