Grasse à Lorgues in 3 days - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This 89.4 km three-day journey takes you deep into the heart of limestone Provence, linking the perfume capital of Grasse to the medieval town of Lorgues with an elevation gain of 1433m and a loss of 1348m. Between olive terraces, the Siagne gorges, and vast stretches of scrubland, pilgrims discover gems such as the Saint-Cassien chapel or the perched village of Callian. The path winds through landscapes of pine and holm oak, offering striking views of the Estérel massif before reaching the spiritual serenity of nearby Thoronet Abbey. It is a long, contemplative trek where the murmur of springs and the shade of old stone bridges accompany your inner reflection. Arriving in Lorgues, with its monumental Saint-Martin collegiate church, marks a significant spiritual milestone on the ancient Via Aurelia.

Difficultés

The main challenge lies in managing your stamina over 89 km and the total 1433m ascent, especially during the technical descent towards the Siagne river. Sun exposure is intense on the karst plateaus, and some sections between the villages of Fayence and Lorgues suffer from a lack of shade.

Conseils

Ensure you carry significant water reserves between Montauroux and Lorgues. For your credential, don't miss getting a stamp at the Bagnols-en-Forêt town hall or the Lorgues tourist office; a stop at the Saint-Ferréol hermitage is highly recommended for its pilgrim welcome.
