Èze à Valbonne in 3 days - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This exceptional 58.1 km journey takes you from the Mediterranean balconies to the lush heart of the Sophia-Antipolis region. Over three days of walking, you will conquer 2060m of ascent and 2124m of descent, crossing iconic sites such as the Plateau de la Justice and the hills overlooking the French Riviera. The path honors sacred heritage, passing near Saint-Michel chapel and ending in the unique geometric grid of Valbonne with its Chalaisian abbey. Between fragrant scrubland and Alpine panoramas, this crossing offers a profound moment of spiritual reflection facing the vastness of the sea. It is a demanding route requiring approximately 18 hours of actual walking to connect the eagle's nest of Èze to the historic arcades of Valbonne.

Difficultés

With a cumulative elevation gain of 2060m over three days, the effort is steady, especially during the climb towards the ridges above Nice. Technical descents on rocky terrain in the hinterland can be taxing on the knees, particularly with a heavy pack. Exposure to the sun is constant on the limestone plateaus, increasing thermal fatigue during summer months.

Conseils

Remember to stamp your credential at the Èze tourist office before departing and at the Valbonne Abbey upon arrival. Carry a significant water supply (at least 3L) for the crossing of the karst areas between La Trinité and Gairaut, where water points are scarce. A spiritual stop at the Cimiez Monastery in Nice is highly recommended along your route.
