Èze à Mougins in 3 days - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This majestic 59.0 km journey, representing approximately 16 hours of walking over three days, leads you from the high balconies of the Riviera to the hinterland of Cannes. Starting from the medieval eagle's nest of Èze, the path undulates between sea and mountains with a total ascent of 2077m and a descent of 2126m. You will cross the hills of Nice, bridge the Var river, and progress through the scents of the garrigue and oak forests to the art village of Mougins. Spiritual heritage is everywhere, notably through the Provençal oratories and the Notre-Dame-de-Vie chapel, offering pilgrims a space for meditation overlooking the azure panorama. The route provides a unique immersion between the history-laden asphalt of the ancient Roman road and the serenity of forest trails.

Difficultés

The effort is sustained with over 2000m of cumulative elevation gain, making this section particularly demanding on the knees during technical descents. Crossing the urban area of Nice can be tiring due to the asphalt and reflected heat in summer. The climbs towards the ridges above La Turbie and the Esterel require careful hydration management.

Conseils

Remember to get your credential stamped at Nice Cathedral or the Church of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur. Plan for large water reserves as fountains are scarce on the dry ridges between Nice and Mougins. For a memorable night, stay in the small family guesthouses at the entrance of Mougins, famous for its gastronomy.
