Cap-d'Ail à Opio in 3 days - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This 53.3 km journey takes you from the Azurean shores of Cap-d'Ail to the peaceful olive groves of Opio, featuring 1,928m of ascent and 2,161m of descent over three days. Leaving the coast, the pilgrim rises towards the Riviera balconies, crossing the perched villages of La Turbie and Èze before venturing into the hills of the Grasse region. The route pays tribute to sacred heritage through the famous Trophy of Augustus and numerous discreet oratories nestled in the fragrant scrubland. Between crossing panoramic passes and descending towards the Loup Valley, this stage offers a deep spiritual immersion in the heart of an authentic and rugged Provence. It is a crossing where the Mediterranean light guides your steps toward the serenity of the inland territories.

Difficultés

The effort is demanding with 1,928m of elevation gain, including steep climbs on rocky, sometimes technical paths between Èze and La Turbie. Managing endurance is crucial over 53 km, especially as some ridge sections are highly exposed to the sun and lack shade.

Conseils

Prepare a significant water supply before leaving La Turbie, as resupply points become scarce on the summits. Don't forget to have your credential stamped at Saint-Michel church in La Turbie or the town hall in Bar-sur-Loup.
