Bras à Coudoux in 3 days - Via Aurelia Camino

Description

This majestic 71.7 km crossing immerses you in the heart of authentic Provence, linking the Var to the Bouches-du-Rhône with 1208m of ascent and 1310m of descent. Leaving the Templar village of Bras, the path winds through the Coteaux d'Aix vineyards and Mediterranean forests towards Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume, where Mary Magdalene, a central figure in Provençal spirituality, rests. Your pilgrimage continues at the foot of the iconic Sainte-Victoire mountain, passing through Puyloubier and the Bimont dam before reaching the elegant city of Aix-en-Provence. The journey ends with an immersion in the scented scrubland to the hilltop village of Coudoux, offering a contemplative experience between ancient heritage and landscapes worthy of Cézanne. Expect around 18 hours of walking spread over three intense days.

Difficultés

The effort is sustained due to the significant distance and the rugged terrain around Sainte-Victoire, where the 1208m climb is felt. Sun exposure is almost permanent on the limestone plateaus, and some stony sections between Puyloubier and Aix require careful footwork. Food and water supplies are sparse, particularly on the section between Vauvenargues and the outskirts of Aix.

Conseils

Be sure to have your credential stamped at the Basilica of Saint-Maximin, the third tomb of Christendom. Plan for a significant water reserve (minimum 3L in summer) for the crossing of the Grand Vallat massifs. A spiritual stop at the Saint-Benoît monastery in Puyloubier is highly recommended for its pilgrim welcome.
